Monday Movie XVI

Topic for this week is all about...
Reunion

Reunions always brings back memories. While some may experience that it also brings back old flames or old enemies, others just laugh about their past. Here are my 5 flick picks for this week for this nice topic.

1. Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) - I simply love John Cusack. And him playing as an assassin is quite different from his regular next door guy roles. This films is, let's just say... a High School reunion gone bad.
2. Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) - They say 80's is an era of bad hair days and silly clothes. But Nicolas Cage musta thought he looked so cool back then. I wonder how he thinks about it now? Ha! But this movie is about a girl who finds herself trapped in her past. The "adventure" then makes up her mind at the end of who she really was and want.
3. Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997) - This is actually the first movie that came into my mind. It's simply funny and I love how the way they bashed the former bullies who turned out to be the "losers". So be careful kiddies on how you treat the "less popular" kids at school now. Who knows they will be the successful ones and you are not!
4. Bicentennial Man (1999) - Everything above has a mix or mostly comedy, but this one is a satire about how the future may turn out. And how mankind can be equal to his own creations. The reunion in this film is when Andrew, the robot, returns to his old masters' house and falls in love which made him determined to be as human as can be.
5. What Dreams May Come (1998) - This time, I saved the best for last. This is one of my fave movies of all time (added to a long list of others) but for those who haven't seen this yet, its highly recommend. And briefly I may say that in True Love, not even death can keep soulmates apart even if it takes going to Hell.

Topic for this week is all about...
On the Road

Ohh I love to travel! And here are a few of my fave movies that either involves traveling or is about traveling! (I was about to add Lolita, but I mentioned that one to many times! lol)

1. Mad Love (1995) - Juvenile love, oh so sweet and so innocent! But these two runaway lovers finds out that falling madly inlove is not the only thing that they need to survive.
2. Sideways (2004) - This movie was recommended by one of my X bf after we stopped seeing each other. I don't know why, but maybe he's sending me a message here. Oh well, he is indeed an "older" man. I wonder who he sees himself in this movie? The playful actor who is about to get married or the depressed teacher?
3. Into the Wild (2007) - A name that I will never forget: Alexander Supertramp. This movie truly moved me! And I only knew in the end that this was based on a true story which made me cry even more! It's about a fresh graduate who gave up his material world to live in the wild. Just when you think he finds a place to settle, he had the urge to keep on moving until he reached Alaska. And I won't tell what happens there! Just go and see this!
4. Rain Man (1998) - Who would expect that finding a long lost brother would make a greedy man's heart melt? I guess, spending time to rekindle a forgotten past is indeed life-changing.
5. EuroTrip (2004) - Of course! The ultimate joy ride! LOL. Enough of the drama, this movie is best seen with your friends, or alone when you wanna laugh yourself to sleep! Yeah, okay, some may say this is a stupid movie, but you must admit, anyone who has seen this had at least a few laughs! I had lots!

Monday Movie Meme XIV

Topic for this week is all about...
Subtitles

Some people I know refuse to watch non-english films, despite high acclimation, simply because they refuse to read while watching the scenes. In my case, I do not mind reading it coz sometimes it's even better because you get every detail on word.

It took me a while to remember all the cool movies I have seen but here are my choice for this theme. Not necessarily my top 5 but all very much recommended!

1. Turks Fruit [Turkish Delight] (1973) - Dutch. Considered one of the classic films in Holland, this movie is simply one of my favorites. It may redefine your meaning of bitter-sweet comedy, if you ever have defined it. *wink* And kiddies, this is Rated.
2. Trois couleurs: Bleu [Three Colors: Blue] (1993) - French. I'm not really fond of classical music but this film opened my eyes to the beauty in making it. Tragedy revolves around this movie but there is a dark secret that will only reveal at the end.
3. La double vie de Véronique [The Double Life of Veronique] (1991) - French. Have you ever thought that somewhere in the world, with so many people, there is someone who is exactly like you? No, not a soulmate, but someone who is you but not really entirely. From the same director of Bleu, this film's twists and turns will keep you guessing.
4. À la folie... pas du tout [He Loves Me... He Loves Me Not] (2002) - French. What can I say, I love French movies and Audrey Tautou! And after seeing Amelie (should have been included in this list) I simply hunted for films where she starred. And boy was I surprised to see her at Da Vinci Code! Anyway, this film reminded me of my funny stalker days with my one of my Professors who I had a big big crush on. But of course, I am not as extreme as in this film! Some hated the ending but I think it's always good to find yourself thinking what will happen next.
5. Lola rennt [Run Lola Run] (1998) - German. Oh the things we do for love! This film is full of excitement and unexpected twists that will leave you almost breathless as the lovers rush in finding a lost huge amount of money that may not only cost them their lives, but their love. This movie will make you believe that fate is not all about coincidences but our decisions as well.

Saturday Celebration!

Happy 4th of July America!

And to celebrate, here's a cute meme that Stacie tagged me:

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it:

(1) Go to your photo files…Select the 6th photo folder

(2) Select the 6th photo in that folder

(3) Post that photo along with the story behind it.

(4) Then challenge 6 blog friends to do the same!

In my files of my photo section here is my 6th picture:

Cream Puff. Sweet sweet creamy puffs!

This is a photo I took of the food I donated to an organization that I volunteered at, not too long ago. I brought them about 8 boxes of these to share at a lunch event. I'm of course thinking of going there again once I can walk properly. They have been so sweet to me too, that some actually visited me at the hospital last week to cheer me up.

Today my friends will come over for the 4th of July fireworks and oh I wish I have a box of cream puff to share with them. They will bring all the food though.

Now for the bonus... to challenge 6 blog friends to do the same, I choose the 6th post back and tag the last 6 commenters!

6th post back: Movie Monday XIII

The last 6 commenters:
(1) Billy
(2) Ratty
(3) Katherine
(4) Harriet
(5) Lulu (I need to look up for her link coz the commentluv widget strangely did not add it)
(6) Icy BC

(note to my friends, if you don't want to make a post of this meme at your blog you can add the photo to your comments)

Topic for this week is all about...
The Movies You'd Most Like To Hang Out In

If you could go and hang out in any movie, which would it be? Here are the first 5 movies that I can think of:
1. Empire Records (1995) - I used to want to work in such a store back when I first saw this film. Silly but its just way too cool for me then. (But that was a decade ago) lol...
2. Pleasantville (1998) - I bet I'd be one of those kids who will shed out the grayness and have my own color... (You have got to see it to know what I mean)
3. Almost Famous (2000) - I would be one of the groupies! Concerts and booze all night every night!
4. Across the Universe (2007) - I like the psychedelic images here. And how characters sing in the most unlikely of situations! Ha! One scene as Jude is being beaten by the police, he suddenly sings!? I could imagine Beatles fans not liking this film, but I enjoyed watching it as it makes fun of songs and characters in songs by the Beatles. But what the heck, John Lennon would have just laughed about it.
5. Moulin Rouge! (2001) - And speaking of music and singing, I would definitely want to be one of the girls in this movie! *wink*

Tuesday Trophies II

Yes, I got my second award! Now for every award that I will receive (if there are any other in the future, la!) I shall post it on a Tuesday. Kinda convenient for the blog post title, doncha think?

So on to the award... The Squirrel Queen gave me this awesome award! Thank You so much SQ! XoXoX

It says "o teu blog merece ser filmado" which is the Portuguese of "your blog deserves to be filmed".

The Rules:
(1) Post it to the blog and link to who gave it to you.
(2) Choose 5 life situations that could be repeated in slow motion and explain why.
(3) List up to twelve blogs and let them know you've given them the award.

Five life situations in slow motion and why:
1. leaves and branches swaying with the wind - the calming sound is relaxing

2. watching the waves - because I grew up near the sea, the sound of waves and the sight of them in slow motion would be intriguingly beautiful!

3. a handsome guy passing by - if men think that they are the only ones who wants to see girls (or the opposite sex) walk in slow mo, well, think again!

4. a mom combing the hair of her daughter - this is something that I always like when I was a kid. It's not just a massage, but you feel the love through her fingers.

5. crowded cafe - it always fascinated me to think about this scene. Where everyone so busy eating, drinking, talking, laughing or just passing by, seeing a car drive by while people stop and stare, the waitress slowly pours coffee to a cup and smoke from the kitchen slowly move outwards... ohh classic!

Five Blogs that I would love to watch:
(1) Everyday Adventurer (2) Paradise of Rivendellious Borneo (3) twisted thoughts within my four brick walls (4) Here and Now
(5) Wandering Thoughts*

Monday Movie Meme XII

Topic for this week is all about Trauma

What are the movies that scared the most gutts outa yous? Here are my top 5 (in order of last seen):

1. Hostel (2005) - Part 2 is equally gross, but this movie scared the shakes out of me that I almost swore that I would never go to any Scandinavian country!

2. The Sixth Sense (1999) - the last thing I wanna be is to "see dead people".

3. The Ring (2002) - The sequel is a must see if you got scared of the first. But gee this movie made me taken aback by long black haired girls which also made sleepless for a week! I actually moved my TV to another location in the house!

4. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - I think deep down inside, my insomnia was caused by this film! I remember being afraid to go to sleep when I was a kid.

5. The Exorcist (1973) - Aliens, ghosts, serial killers and the paranormal do not scare me as much as demons! This brings chills up to this day. And to think that rumors has it that this film is based on a true story, only that the kid who got possessed was actually a boy.

And, my apologies if I do not add any posters to this post unlike my other MMM's. Writing this in the dark, alone in my house, raining outside just isn't the perfect ambiance.

Tuesday Trophies

My SUPER Thanks to my first award! Stacie from Super Mommy to the Rescue just gave me an award and it's time for me to pass it on.

Here are the RULES of this Award:

(1) Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
(2) Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
(3) Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
(4) Name 7 things about yourself that people might find interesting.
(5) Nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers.
(6) Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
(7) Leave a comment on each of the blogs, letting them know they have been nominated.

7 things about me people might find interesting:

1. I also recently wrote another 7 things about me. (Aww! This is not cheating! lol)

2. Despite my blog color, my favorite color is Blue. Who would have guessed? But I love this color maybe because I grew up next to the sea and looking up the wide sky is my pastime.

3. My mom is half Asian. So that makes me 1/4 Asian? I guess so.

4. I never knew my real dad. I grew up with my mom and step dad. And well, we really did not get along well on some level. (some of my readers and online friends knows this)

5. I am a very mysterious woman girl. People tend to judge me on how I look and act but in reality, nobody really knows ALL my sides.

6. I am actually more open online. I think I mentioned it here before, it's more easy for me to open up to strangers, because they do not take sides and are less prejudiced.

7. I am Always inLove. Not just with Men, (or women? lol) But also with nature, with the stars, with the sky and the sea. Now if you ask me to weigh them all though, I couldn't choose which one goes first. LOL

7 Exceptionally Kreativ Bloggers:

(1) Wiggy (you still owe me from last time) (2) Stephanie
(3) SquirrelQueen (4) Ratty (5) Tina (6) Icy BC (7) Harriet

Monday Movie Meme XI

Topic for this week is all about Alfred Hitchcock

He is regarded as one of history's most important directors. He influenced alot of present directors and actors, even maybe a genre! Steven Spielberg, Brian De Palma, John Carpenter and Quentin Tarantino named him as an influence. But, surprisingly, he never won a best director award.

When I was a kid, I remember our baby sitter always have this movie night where we watch Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents next to each other. She said this will make us be used to scary stuff so we won't be afraid. But I guess it really never went as planned. LOL

Here's my little way to pay tribute to a great legend! By posting my 5 faves from the memorable films he has made. (Well those that I remember seeing)

1. The Birds (1963)- This one is very very unforgettable! I remember being scared with birds as a kid because of this. lol...

2. To Catch a Thief (1955) - A thief proves his innocence by catching another thief. Not scary but indeed the mystery keeps you glued.

3. Insomnia (1955) from the "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" series. - A man with an insomnia and a recurring dream. But was it really a dream?

4. Beta Delta Gamma (1961) from the "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" series. - A frat house party practical joke gone bad.

5. You Can't Trust a Man (1961) from the "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" series. - An undivorced singer who wants to get rid of her excon husband, and made the wrong choice.
